Smell Day

April 25th is National Sense of Smell Day:

National Sense of Smell Day is an annual observation held on the last Saturday in April.  This day is focused on how the sense of smell plays a significant role in daily life and how it interacts with other senses.  The ability to detect chemicals related to smell is one of the earliest senses that develops in a growing fetus. It is the first sense that plays a crucial role for people who are visually impaired as it helps to protect them from unsafe situations.

Studies reveal that after workouts, our brain signals get activated which in turn increase the ability to smell.  Also, as the day progresses your sense of smell gets stronger and is strongest in the evening.  This makes a certain amount of sense when you consider that during the day our sight is the most important sense in identifying dangers.  While we are slumbering our sense of smell stops working to give us a peaceful sleep.
